@deadwronghistory1: This is George Carlin on Charlie Rose. By this point, he'd stopped pretending. For most of his career, Carlin's comedy had an implicit argument: here's what's broken, now fix it. The specials of the 1970s and 1980s were angry, but the anger had a moral purpose. He believed things could change. By the late 1990s, he'd abandoned that belief entirely. He said so in interview after interview. The shift wasn't cynicism in the cheap sense — it was the conclusion of someone who'd watched the peace movement, the counterculture, the environmental movement, and every political party fail in sequence. What replaced it was detachment. He stopped rooting for the humans and started watching the show. Some people find this depressing. Carlin found it liberating. #georgecarlin #charlierose #philosophy #comedy #History
