I think it's because she's a senior in highschool and preparing for gaokao. Although the hours at school are long but there are multiple breaks in a day.

Actually in the UK, there are two types of schools ( private and state). So, it’s not easy to talk about which ones are better ( every has different opinions). I guess in China, parents wish their children to have better futures ( good jobs, better incomes later. They pressure their children to study in unis - top unis). In some countries, children can go to some high schools to learn some skills, and later can be builders, plumbers, electricians, hairdressers, etc. that’s an option too.
