Josie got to a point in the #NICU that her care team thought she might be ready for a trial of extubation. It was either that or a #tracheostomy. The idea of cutting a hole in her throat scared me and broke my heart so we divided to try taking her breathing tube out and putting her on BiPAP to see what happened. When they estimated her, I heard her cry for the first time since delivering her and it was SO SAD. Her little voice was hoarse and she sounded like a little frog. I wish I had thought to video it. It took her all night to finally settle into having the tube out. It didn’t go as well as they hoped but she was able to keep her blood gasses at a moderately okay level. I was so happy to finally be able to cradle her against my chest when I held her ❤️ #arthrogryposis #specialneeds #disability #gtube #babygirl
