I don’t know if this analysis can be completely true. I think Dexter was just young and immature. Think about it, he was a 21/22 year old when they met, who was a playboy and quickly got caught up in fame and fortune. Yes his personality wasn’t the greatest at times but I don’t think he kept Emma as a backup. Did he take he for granted? yes but can you say he wasn’t in love with her when they got older? I don’t think so. The books are probably more nuanced and offer a better psyche analysis from Dexter

Isn’t that the point in the end? That he wasted so much precious time on artifice and the shallow pursuit of fame and beauty that he missed out on years with the love of his life? That’s the tragedy of it all, it’s kind of the point of the story.

This show is sad sad sad from start to finish. Idk so many people love this story so much. I don’t like “slow burns” or “will they, won’t they” wishy washy back and forth narratives. I like guys who know what they want and commit to the girl on day 1.
