The problem is quite large. I ask this question “what happens after the revolution you so much desire? Who would trust to lead and effect change? Can you trust your neighbor also has the best interests of the collective?”

Exactly why I get angry when parents and guidances try to shut down a bold child even when the child is not wrong…it starts from the toddlers. I’m an aunt I’ll use my niece as case studies. The first one is playful but very emotionally intelligent, she is just four years, when she does the most meaningless thing..someone shouts for her (mind you she’s the first child) so she’s very soft, very agreeable and she easily cries ..then the other one that’s a year younger than her(completely different parents btw) that babe can speak up for anything, she doesn’t care…tell her to shut up and she’ll tell you “don’t tell me to shut up” and she knows what’s she’s saying a 101%…if you’re mean to her she’ll tell you not to come to her house …that is exactly how we should raise children…raise them to speak up..teach them how to set boundaries !!!!..her boldness intrigues everybody and I make sure I protect her from the adults that try to humble her..that your stubborn child is supposed yo lead us in the future!! But nooooo, you want him/her to be respectful to immature “adults”‼️

I felt this so much as a uni student. Lecturers go ahead and do whatever they want without anyone questioning them. But how do we recondition our mindset to actually question authority. How do we move forward as nigerians?

And the indoctrination phrase is "Obedience" Its the core moral lesson of most of our children stories. Obedience doesn't ask if power is right, it only asks for others to yield to it.

Based on research, many of Nigeria’s challenges stem from how we define things, because our definitions are not shaped by our own environment. In one word, we’re used to a copy-and-paste system. The way out is a simple logic. I’ve known this for a long time—just like you said earlier, NOT BEING ABLE TO QUESTION POWER. But do you think questioning authority will truly set us free?

The individualism you talked about is really the problem. And come to think of it, I don't really blame us for being that way. Take End Sars for example, even though it was achieved, you know how many lost their life and are unable to witness the change they fought for. Though freedom is fought for by some and enjoyed by others, but this generation already taught us nobody would actually value your contribution, you would just end up as a history that not everyone knows. So, why not just live your own life? We know our past, so we can foretell our future, it's the same as our history.
