Another variation of the classic ‘you’ve won a prize’ fraud, this time dressed up with stolen identity and a glossy backstory. The profile used the name and photos of a well-known car journalist, Al Vazquez and presented a ‘management’ role offering a luxury car giveaway. No money needed… except a small “delivery fee” to release the prize. That’s the hook. These scams are carefully engineered to feel legitimate: • Stolen or AI-generated identity profiles • Professional or high-status job titles to build trust • Fake “prizes” (cars, crypto, luxury goods, inheritances) • Pressure for a small upfront payment (fees, tax, shipping, clearance) • Rapid escalation once the victim engages The recorded call via app used a clearly foreign-accented voice (we know where from), a common tactic where scammers operate in teams, often using call scripts to maintain control while keeping emotional distance. Once the “delivery fee” is paid, the prize never exists, and a second wave of requests usually follows. Reality check: Legitimate prize draws do not require you to pay to receive a prize. Ever. These scams rely on excitement, authority, and urgency, not logic. If someone contacts you with a “free” high-value prize that requires any payment to unlock it, you’re not receiving a prize… you’re being positioned as the next payment source. Stay sceptical.
