When one flower is ready to cut, what happens to the side buds if they’re still a little hard? Will they open in a vase? Or do you cut them off?

I just threw some vegetable fertilizer on mine and they became huge for some reason. I basically sprinkled it on and around them as soon as I saw them popping up in spring, kept doing that throughout the season, and watered it in. They ended up getting really big with a ton of flowers, and the seed pods became like 2x bigger too. But if you’re trying to grow peonies from seed, they definitely take a while.
