They never rise or set, they simply spin. At the Equator, the motion looks completely different. Stars rise almost straight up in the east, arc across the sky, and set straight down in the west. The entire sky appears to rotate like a giant wheel. At the South Pole, the pattern returns to circular motion again but this time the stars rotate in the opposite direction, around the South Celestial Pole. This happens because we are standing on a rotating sphere. The angle of Earth’s axis relative to your position determines how the celestial sphere appears to move above you. here in South Africa the sun,moon and stars move from east to west just like the northern hemisphere, so my question is why do the movement in southern hemisphere showing a clockwise horizon which inadvertently means they move from west to east?
