She literally was just a kid bro every time I see toph admit her feelings in the series it changes my view on her even more. I never hated her because she reminds me of myself when I was younger so much it's uncanny

Toph being my inspiration for me when I was hospitalized and came back with a disability. She is a good representation of how disabled children or people in general are perceived by their parents and peers, and that hit hard for me at 11 years old, barely a month in to adjusting to my new life, and already being restricted like everything was a threat. Its been years since that, and I’m a good fighter, I like weight lifting and more importantly I love art. Yet, I still hate the comments and struggles of being “vulnerable” and when I come off as too “strong” automatically people think I shouldn’t be comforted and I have everything covered mentally. A character like Toph was, and still is my anchor to reminding me of my value.

Being disabled and constantly being treated like a baby is the one thing I truly hate about my condition. I constantly find myself having to remind people that i’m disabled not dumb, especially when there’s many stereotypes and jokes around my disorder. I remember being 12 years old and watching this for the first time and seeing her be such a strong and intelligent character because of her disability instead of in spite of it was so important to me. Sometimes whenever i feel upset over my own disability, i will go back and watch the episode she was first introduced, and remind myself that i have the ability to be great because of my disability, just like toph is. She is such amazing representation for young disabled people everywhere.
