@economyvodka: And I am so grateful I grew up in NYC are you kidding. No sidewalks? Having to hop in a car for everything? Never ever. #publictransportation #USA #midwest #fyp #gasprices

I’m so grateful to live in Toronto. Hardware stores, produce shops, laundromats, public libraries, bike shares, 24 hour public transit, hospital.. all in walking distance from my home and work.

I live in rural ontario. I went to Iceland 2 years ago and was shocked to see children around 5-6 using the bus by themselves. I couldn’t imagine having that freedom at that age where I live. Our farm was quite literally my prison growing up. Asking my parents who worked all the time to go to a friends house was like asking for a million dollars 😭

As someone from the North, I love living in the Deep South. It’s more affordable, has a stronger sense of community, and I have easy access to fresh food where I am. Public transit could be better, but that can improve as more people move here and cities continue to grow. And since much of the South is more rural, it makes sense that it isn’t as walkable.

Been living in dc 3yrs, about to move to Seattle. My family is upset I’m not moving back to Texas instead and I’m like guys Idk if I can go back to living in a non-walkable area now that I’ve had a taste of freedom 😭

the ONLY Midwest state I would even entertain living in is Chicago and that's bc it has similarities to NYC and I believe one of the only cities in the US(not just the Midwest) that has solid public transportation..otherwise if I ever leaved my area and didn't go back to NYC would probably be DC(another city w/good public transportation) or Maryland.

It just makes no sense to design places where the only way to get anywhere requires driving. Especially in a large city.

I go to school in Suffolk county and driving there I literally see adults and kids walking on the side of the road (everyone is going 50mph btw) to get to their destination also bus stops are like almost non existent.

i live in OC in california and im always so jealous of LA’s public transit even if people say its not great either, at least the buses come every 5-10 minutes instead of 30 minutes to an hour 🫠

i'm so spoiled for choice of public transit that i take two different forms to get to and from work. bus to train from. i count my blessings everyday that i was born in pnw, i'd never live anywhere else

I got a free and (discounted) transit pass to the LA metro yes it’s inconvenient at times but it’s better than nothing!

Honestly the only two places I would ever consider living in are New York City and LA, and my mom looks at me funny when I say that😭

South all day. I have a car so getting place to place was never an issue. Plus I like the food and how laidback it is. That’s just me though

all this tells me is you've never lived in the south. the north has areas of urban sprawl just as much as the south and Midwest. comparing the two as if the north as a whole is so much better than the south is silly when it's really a conversation of cities v. suburbs/ rural areas of the US.

This was one of the main factors as to why I dropped out of college. I couldn’t afford to drive 20-25 minutes to campus everyday. At the time, it only took me around 6-8 minutes to walk to my job. I had to prioritize staying near my job, because at least then I was getting payed.

i love nyc, but the south is way different. i’m from the south and to compare the north and south is just not even fair bc it’s so different. i wish so so bad my home could improve, but i know that there just isn’t a place for me there. i LOVE the south, and i LOVE nyc. it’s just so different
