There's always malaria microsomes in our blood. It's the count that matters. We give blood back home

"I remember preparing to travel from Canada to Nigeria in the early 1990s. Because malaria was not present in Canada, travelers had to take special precautions before visiting countries where malaria was common. That experience reminded me that what is normal in one environment may be a serious risk in another.

Whilst appreciating your point, the act is more about the receiver of your blood. It’s simply too much of a risk sometimes and you won’t be the only community excluded from donating. The NHS cannot waste huge time and resources collecting matter from at risk persons, because like I said it’s not worth the risk to the receiver. Instead maybe empower those who can donate to donate. That way you’ve done what you wanted and lives are saved.

I think what they meant is that, u have malaria antigens in ur blood, so if they give another person that blood, they will be at high risk...

the same happened to me. I went to nhs to donate blood 6yrs ago. they took my blood test and contacted me afterwards to not donate blood due to I'm from high risk malaria country, Nigeria.
