My whole family (very tight) set last thanksgiving and my grandparents who are both 78,80 said, we want to talk about our wills: everyone went crazy, despite no one being in debt, all of us having large portfolios already. I, 21 years old, sat there, listening to everyone say things they wanted, I listened shocked. When it came around to me, I asked for a samurai sword I’d always admired. They said that’s it, I said yes. My grandfather has already told me post this occurring, I’d be recieving the most, I have a near 90k starting salary job out of college, created many growing things, and have become religious and am pursuing my dreams, all while creating an everlasting relationship with both my grandparents. I think they knew and know, I would be best suited to carry on the family once they inevitably do pass. And I have no doubt in my mind that last thanksgiving is what cemented this thought process for my grandparents to instill in me. I’m blessed no doubt, but all this to say, anyone reading this: it’s ok to want things and to request. But those people who have impacted our lives and especially in my case my grandparents, who are my second parents - genuinely - are far more valuable then any amount of wealth or asset. All of that can be gained and built again as it has generation after generation, time cannot. Find God, or some God, I don’t care which one.
