@themidnightwren: I worked on something a little bit special today, and so you’re getting a sneak peek into my process illustrating packaging for some hand embroidery kits I’m developing! I first did a rough sketch by hand of what I wanted the packaging to look like. Once I was happy with my sketch, I scanned it into Illustrator, where you can see I’m tracing out the design in more detail. I always include a lot of symbolism in my designs, so of course I gave my Wren a lunar crown because the wren is known as “the king of birds” in Celtic lore. The wren is also the harbinger of Spring, so I’ve turned my needle and thread into a flowering vine of creativity with which to stitch and create. Perhaps the most difficult character to sketch is the wren herself, because there are surprisingly few photos of flying wrens! Fortunately the tit is a cousin of the wren, and there are plenty of photos of flying tits I could use as references. I still have quite a long way to go on this illustration, but I’m excited to share my progress and eventually the finished packaging!
