@thepalaeologos: Saint Christopher 🇻🇦 Saint Christopher is sometimes shown in older Eastern Christian icons with a wolf- or dog-like head based on a legend that he came from a distant "dog-headed" people (called cynocephali in ancient writings). The animal head is mostly symbolic: the wolf-like form represents a wild, savage, or unconverted nature, like a person living violently or tar trom God. Atter Christopher converts to Christianity and dedicates himself to Christ, his heart is spiritually purified, and the symbolism softens from a rabid, wolf-like creature into something more like a loyal dog, representing faithfulness and service. The image is meant to show transformation, and Christ turning someone once wild and feared into a devoted servant who literally becomes the "Christ-bearer." #catholic #christian #orthodoxy #christiantiktok #jesuschrist
