Is that thing loaded with water? Look for a plug on the end. Put water in it for added weight and less ‘bounce’.

100% why to use this. You ever run a chisel plow? I’ve heard of people running chisel plows to help break the hard pan from compaction. I’ve mostly heard of it in row crop settings, but don’t know why it wouldn’t help it pasture settings as well or hay fields.

You’re doing the right thing and yes, it helps with the root systems getting the moisture they need. You drive over past the ground and hay ground several times a year packing the soil and water just runs off. I’m trying to buy a new aerator this week to start doing mine again.

In my opinion all this does is compact the soil more, plug aerators remove soil ( less compaction ) I would imagine that roller weighs 1000-2000lbs

Ultimately you’re still compacting your soil, which is the wrong technique.

Never liked aerators that are not plug. my experience has found that they just compact in different ways. You get ridges instead of pans. Its an improvement for sure... but ones that pull and discard plugs work so much better IMO
