@gabtheforestelf: Part two solo backpacking Joshua Tree! Throughout all of my solo backpacking journeys, I have committed to keeping my rain fly on no matter how beautiful the weather is, it just makes me feel safer that someone can’t walk by and see me. But during my trip to Joshua tree, there was a really big wind storm at night, my whole entire tent was shaking and rattling. It sounded like someone was trying to break into my tent and I kept getting out to check and there was no one there. I tried to weigh down the rain fly with rocks, but it didn’t really make much of a difference. This continued for hours. I couldn’t get my logical brain and nervous system to connect. I felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest. After a while, I stood up and I almost thought about packing up and leaving, but I really didn’t want to. I knew that the only way to get the noise stop would be to remove the rain fly and I really contemplated if this was something that I could do. I got at the courage to remove it, and I was able to sleep through the night. In the morning, I couldn’t believe that I did it and I felt really powerful. However, I do not plan to ever do that again lol. #yerbamadrepartner
