📍 ALBUM RECOMMENDATIONS. 🎧🖤 Today’s album recommendation is Sew Pt. 1: Mot / ሰው ክፍል 1 ሞት by Dawit Chernet. When I tell you this album rewired my brain on so many levels 😭… it’s not just some good songs but actually has so much concept behind every single track. The album includes 12 tracks and was Dawit’s debut album. It was available across streaming platforms at the time and later on physical CD, and he also shared a booklet for Sew. (Which I actually LOVE! Because we barely get CDs and cassettes nowadays 😭). This album, in my opinion, presents the first half of a larger meditation on human existence through the idea of death. And honestly, this becomes even more interesting when you know the second album is called Hiwot / ሕይወት. That makes the two albums feel like part of the same philosophical conversation and makes them so much more connected. The album talks through different parts of being human age, death, memory, soul, etc. almost like chapters of life. It uses death as a lens through which to examine what it means to be human and explores our time, memories, existence and eventually what remains of us. It confronts our mortality in a way, I would say. And honestly, it becomes even more interesting because thinking about the end inevitably makes you question everything that comes before it. The other thing I LOVE about this album is these beautiful tracks carrying so many ideas, expressed through Ethiopian music while Dawit creates an alternative/rock-oriented approach with an unmistakably Ethiopian sense of identity, giving the album a sound and atmosphere that feels deeply introspective. It has amazing introspective songwriting, storytelling and acoustic elements. I honestly don’t recommend listening to this album casually in the background. You have to give it your full attention and sit with the words and ideas behind each chapter. I honestly would love to say more about this album, but you just gotta listen to it at this point 😭. I was fully obsessed with it and hopefully you guys will love it too. 🖤 P.S. My favorite tracks from the album are “Emnet,” “Tesfa” and “Fikir.” Comment yours! 🎧🖤 #music #fyp #explore #ethiopian_tik_tok #ethiopianmusic
