My boyfriend and I want to do a farm stand with firewood(he has a Tree business), flowers, vegetables, and fruit from our garden. I don’t really wanna do baking. Do you think people will still come by 🥺

Heavy on the be original. I was one of the only bakers forever and now they’re everywhere and it has killed my margins. I used to say there’s enough customers for all of us but now all of the bakers bring home product from the farmers market/stands. I’m all for friendly competition but when you copy my exact business model, verbiage and even ask for my recipes there’s going to be a problem 😭

On the topic of taxes, since you are home based, you should be able to leverage a portion of your electric, and water bill as a fixed monthly cost. That will help your taxes come April next year!

Thank you for the “be original” tip. I was the only Farmstand in my town a year ago, and now they are popping up all over. That’s great except if someone new is trying to replicate everything you have worked so hard on to be original. They are taking the easy route to try to get their stand going. Fortunately, I have a very devoted following because I do things by the book and I am honest. It’s disrespectful to take someone else’s hard work and duplicate it to try to compete or try to run them out of business. Keep it up!

I’d love more on the tax side! That’s actually what’s stopping me from starting mine. I’m terrified I’ll mess something up or just not save enough from earnings to not owe. Basically just worried I’ll mess everything up 🥲

"farmstands" are not legal in Washington. I'm waiting for them to change it. our laws are STRICT af. does everybody follow them, no. which makes it difficult for the people that do. all knowledge is good knowledge this topic!
