I'm a grade 12 teacher...not all learners are meant for Maths and Science subjects..let's be practical here..if we can follow that narrative, most learners would not even have matric. my son and many others did Maths Lit and he's in his last year in Education specializing with English and History. had he done Maths, wayengeke afumane the points he had.asifani bethuna.

Please do not discourage the kids, not every kids is meant for Stem courses and there life after that… I am a recruiter. If you’re not strong in maths but still want to go into IT or business-related fields, the humanities route can work but you must choose your majors carefully. Universities like the University of Pretoria offer programmes like BIS (Information Science) that accept Maths Literacy and can lead to careers like business analysis in major corporates. While you may not graduate with a BCom, you can still work in similar industries, especially if you build strong practical skills (certifications) alongside your degree. Humanities graduates often stand out because of their critical thinking and communication skills, which employers value alongside technical ability. If maths is a real struggle, it’s often better to take Maths Literacy and aim for high marks than to pass pure maths with low marks that limit your options. As teachers, your duty is to make kids aware the minute you choose maths then you can’t do physics because they don’t go together, therefore it means Stem is not an option for you. A child at grade 10 should already know their path so they don’t even bother applying for courses that are not aligned with them. There’s many options but kids need to be given proper guidance than forcing them to maths core that they are not good at. This is a subject of interest for me coz I was never good at maths and that didn’t hinder me to achieve my goals.

Don't lie, we've got learners who are studying UWC and UCT, not all learners we will be doing those courses.

Good content buti👌🏽🤞🏽. My mother wanted my niece to change to maths literacy ngoba wayefumana oo30% ndala. I forced her to study, ngoMarch she got 60 something % in pure maths. Ndisalwa ndithi it's not enough. We have to be honest to our kids. I tell her akho mali kowenu what will you do with 60% when kids with money are getting 80% in private schools. Which job will look at you with average matrix results and average varsity marks, when you are competing with kids with distinctions applying for the same jobs.
Ndi mvusa ngo 3am everyday and it's not enough.

uninzi lwabantu abakucomment section bamamela for uphendula, yaye abamva ubhuti. akatsho ubhuti ba soze uthathwe kwi dyunivesiti koko uthi kulula ukuvaleleka kwii courses ezithile umfundi anomdla kuzo. hes actually encouraging students who are interested in certn courses to go for maths n work hard on it for a pass. so that they can be at an advantage of gettin taken in their courses of interest. n evn if you may not manage to go to tertiary institution. kulula u aplyer for i leanerships ze enginering nakwi mining sectors nezinye.

Also we must not listen to argue. Ubhuti uthetha nge STEM courses. Meaning if umntana wenza imaths lit makaberealistic when doing university applications and about their final mark for Maths Lit. Akathi ikhona into ewrongo ngeMaths lit. But guide umntwana kakuhle so that azokwazi ukufumana isikolo next year. Its application season, the choices umntwana azenzayo ngoku will determine uba uyasifumana isikolo nha.

The Centre for Destiny :
Maths lit is actually more practical than pure maths. more relavant to everyday life. Compare for example module of finance in maths lit and pure maths. Maths lit is more practical. And ofcourse pure maths help you think logically, solve complex problems and ability to think deep. Every subject is relevant and lets stop making maths lit as if its useless. Its dreams that matters after all and if your dream needs maths lit, go for it.
