@honeymai06: I’m 19 and in days I’m having my bladder removed and an ileal conduit created 🤍 biggest surgery of my life - and the start of a brand new chapter. If you’ve been through major surgery / ostomy surgery / recovery like this, please tell me everything I need to know 👀 tips, must haves, honest truths - all of it. And if you’d like to support me, my GoFundMe is in my bio 🤍 #ostomy #ilealconduit #bladderremoval #chronicillness #surgeryjourney
Hey lovely, I'm a double ostomate. One being a Urostomy. Take some nighties as depending on placement you don't want bottoms cutting in. Stoma nurses are usually amazing with all your needs for the stoma but give it a name! We all do this for our permanent stoma's! Headphones, anything you like doing to keep you occupied also helps pass time and distract from pain. All hygiene essentials. Anything else i can help with any questions you may have feel free to message! Iv had mine 10years this year. Good Luck! 🖤

I’ve had surgery on my my knees and some of the things that helped me was lip balm because your lips and mouth will be so dry, my own pillow and blanket I do this every time I’m in hospital or having a procedure it makes being in hospital that little bit easier, I took my favourite snacks/food for after surgery, sugary drinks for after you come out of surgery can help your body has been through a lot and can help will blood sugars or if your shakey, someting to do I like to take crystal art, before surgery I spoke to my surgeon to make sure I had access to pain killers on the ward that would work for me this helped loads as someone who’s already on strong pain meds and there’s so many more but I don’t wanna take up the whole comment section 😂 but if you wanna talk about anything please drop me a message xx

one thing I can say for a stoma is have wipes with you at all times and body spray and a change of clothes (just in case)

i had a kidney transplant. for me i brought my most comfy clothes and honestly whatever blankets or anything that you really find comfortable, pillows all that you feel like will make you more comfortable id recommend. try to be active after surgery but not too active just to help you heal up, definitely dont over do it like i did and end up hurting yourself. if you feel any pain or uncomfort dont be afraid to say something and if you feel something is wrong or off dont be scared to speak up and say something. same with the staff and nurses if you feel any mistreatment or rudeness or anything that makes you uncomfortable or seems rude dont be afraid to talk to the head nurse.

As a so called surgical veteran (i really am not by some standards, but i've had 7 in the last 9? years), Big water bottle so you don't have to get up as much, compression socks! lots of lip balm as the anaesthetic and pain meds will dry your mouth out massively! a pillow over the tummy to go home might be a good idea? i did that after my laparoscopies and it was much easier to wear a seatbelt. you might get gas pain in your shoulders, peppermint water and tea can help. for me the only thing that relieved it was standing up and taking a few steps. could be really difficult for you post surgery. get yourself some good bingeworthy shows downloaded! and be prepared for it to be emotional. i'm so happy seeing this update i am so pleased you're finally able to get your bladder removed! you must be so relieved and excited for your future xxx

a weird thing I always forget is that being under anaesthetic can often trigger your period! if you’re all sore and swollen down there you may not be wearing underwear for a bit, so just be prepared for that 🤍 nurses are so used to it though so it’s no shame

if you cant eat 24 hours before your surgery, get loads of bubble gum. itll help take your mind off the hunger (if you have to do that). bring a smaller pillow for your lower back. it seems simple ik but if youre bed bound for a few days it really helps. if you are bed bound, ask to have compression socks/stockings otherwise youll have to have a need in your leg to stop blood clots as the needle kills. goodluck.

I also have interstitial cystitis, and it is life ruining. bladder removal is such a scary, brave step, but also one that comes with the potential to finally find some relief and start enjoying life again. I'm sorry you've been dealt this hand in life, especially at such a young age, but I hope your surgery and recovery is swift and you're able to achieve all of your dreams

I've had surgery a few times. The biggest one has been spinal surgery. You will be swollen so big comfy jarmies and something loose to go home is essential. Wear a nightie at first so you don't need to bend when going to the loo. I know you won't need to wee but they will possibly give you laxatives so you can poo easier. Don't be in pain, ask for painkillers if you need them. Also take an extra long phone charger so you don't need to stretch too much. Ear plugs and an eye mask for sleep, lip balm because your lips will get very dry. You might not be able to shower for a day or two after so baby wipes to freshen up.
