@christinescritters: West Nile virus (WNV) is one of the most serious mosquito borne diseases affecting birds of prey, and it poses a real risk to non-releasable ambassador raptors such as eagles, hawks, falcons, osprey and owls. Infection can lead to neurological symptoms, weakness, and in many cases, death. For educational ambassadors that cannot be released back into the wild, prevention is everything. These birds play an essential role in helping the public connect with wildlife and understand conservation. Vaccination against WNV has become an important tool in protecting these birds. While no vaccine offers 100% protection, it significantly reduces the severity of illness and increases survival rates. When combined with mosquito control measures such as eliminating standing water, using fans in aviaries, and minimizing exposure during peak mosquito activity, vaccination provides a strong layer of defense. #christinescritters #eagle #aurora #westnilevirus #mosquito
