Losing a few centimetres in your garden is a small price to pay to avoid problems in the future, you did the right thing. I would do anything to distance myself from neighbours, let’s face it it’s very rare anyone ends up living next to nice neighbours nowadays.

I hate difficult ppl. we had to same problem! we installed a fence to part the both gardens and we offered to do half the fence (it was their side) and the neighbor refused. she said u do it all (so we did) and she had the cheek to complain that it wasn't "her style" and I'm. like what!? ppl r so rude and weird and soooo intolerable!

Nah your neighbour is silly I would’ve been like “PLEASE!” (Our neighbour asked if it was okay if she put trellis at the top to match the back of both of ours and I was like omg yesss please! I event lent her my paint sprayer for it 🤣)

Honestly, I don’t think the fence was what made the garden look bad. No offense meant—I completely understand how difficult it can be having a neighbor you don’t get along with, as it really affects your home life. That said, the garden wasn’t in great shape, and it feels a bit unfair to place that on your neighbor. Sometimes a small, friendly gesture—like bringing over a box of chocolates when someone moves in—can go a long way in avoiding tension. Personally, if a neighbor offered to put up a nice, quality fence, I’d be more than happy to agree.

Sometimes it is just easier to lose a few inches of garden in order to not have to battle neighbours. Looks great!

Our neighbours agreed to do the fence and pay half but then refused when it came to it so yeah better to jus lose some space

We had the same issue, The neighbours wanted to keep their old fence so we lost abit of space but it was worth it & everything looks so cohesive now our garden is pretty big so we dont even notice the lost few inches
