@grahamdavid: Get rid of Universal Credit. And Minimum Wage!! If you're working full time and still need the state to top up your wages, your employer isn't paying enough. And they don't have to. Because we do it for them! #GrahamDavid #SatireAndComment #UniversalCredit #MinimumWage #Welfare #UKPolitics #CostOfLiving #WorkingPoverty
This doesn’t work because it relies on employers being decent. Current Minimum wage employers would instantly lower their pay and without introducing deflation, the workers would not be able to afford anything at the current pricing

greens 10:1 ratio on wages doesn't sound so bad now, if the lowest worker gets paid £12 an hour big boss only gets £120 an hour, whereas I bet right now he's more than likely getting £120 a min, the problem I see though with removing minimum wage is there's nothing stopping companies paying £1 an hour

you know who my low wage employer is? the civil service! i work for UC and earn £1800 per month, my rent is £900 and childcare is £260 to £800 (after school vs school holidays) per month without the £700-900 i get from UC i would seriously be struggling

Capitalism is driving down wages & reducing staff numbers to increase profits. Take away minimum wage what will stop big businesses lowering people's pay?

your argument sounds reasonable but companies that earn millions still wont pay a decent livable pay ..my company being one of them

There’s nothing stopping any company paying more than the minimum wage. The fact that we have minimum wage employers right now sinks your argument.

Ur aumption is based on the employers want to pay there staff more and not not get more profits noo and U also don't acknowledge ai or technology which is also replacing human workers and creating more people jobless because the companies want more profits and having human workers costs the company way more and eats into the profits

So it’s not the price of housing, the price of energy and the price of food, it’s minimum wage. Sure

UC and minimum wage were brought in because employers couldnt be trusted to pay their employees a livable wage. The working class were literally starving. The job market favours the employer with 20 aplicants for every one job, they have no incentive to pay well.

Understand your concerns and logic to some degree. It’s a very difficult problem that requires solutions that aren’t ideal for everyone.

Yea but your relying on company’s who’s main aim is profit to be fair so option A pay a living wage and no one in the company is on say max 50% more then the lowest paid so they can afford it or option B pay less to max out profits for shareholder and give the top 10% of management a pay rise? I agree the system is self defeating but look at was before it, I use to have friends that got paid £1 and hour when I was on £3.70 for 40 hours a week, this are the same company’s that brought in zero hour contracts….so on evidence alone I think they would more likely go with B then A so how would we make a level playing field so we don’t need to top up working people’s wages?
