She is right. Tax is actually voluntary under law. Government got around that by introducing tax file numbers to work.

I phoned them up about 15 years ago and said why am I doing this every year? They said we don’t know I said well how about we stop and they just agreed and that was sent a letter saying I’m no longer needed to do it

But if no one pays tax then how do you expect services people rely on to be paid for? Tax is a bind but it is also what makes key institutions run. We are a community of people not just a group of individuals

If you file a tax return you are basically forming a contract and then they can enforce it. However, they cannot force you to file a tax return....

The money goes to Gov, then welfare and the other services get very little money from our tax so no it’s not going towards our services who really need it

Most countries for centuries survived without income tax(google it) income tax was introduced due to a war and should of been abolished afterwards. Countries survived by trade and tariffs

If you tell HMRC that you were not self employed or had no income to declare, obviously, they will tell you that they don’t need you to file tax return. You are confusing this completely.

Key word “requirement” legalese. There is nothing in the taxes management act = zero obligation. We achieved this many years ago.

Lots of people get these. It says you don’t need to file a tax return but if circumstances change you will need to, hence the name “self”assessment.
