Companies stopped being willing to train anyone. The deal used to be “juniors are cheap because we’ll teach you.” Now everyone’s expected to arrive pre-trained, and then companies act surprised that the senior pipeline is drying up.

They can replace me with AI but don’t call me back when sales vibe codes too close to the sun and y'all need someone to fix it.

I‘m so glad I already have 10+ years of experience (6 of which full time). Idk how the juniors manage these days

Or you grow and train a junior engineer up to the point they (usually subjectivity) feel themselves senior... And leave

Andrew :
Would it be fair to say that few engineers today write assembly, microcode, etc. and future engineers may not need to write the mundane day to day stuff of junior engineers? Is it realistic that people will be able to jump to a more senior level of orchestrating agents without being able to write all the code that a junior would have?

if I'd gotten fired from a DotCom every time I had to explain this, I'd be fired twice, which isn't a lot, but it's weird the options didn't have time to vest.

I mean they do not plan to have any new senior engineers. the hope is that they are gonna use the mid+/seniors for the next 20 years and then AI will magically replace all. their bet is that AGI comes faster than current pool of seniors/fresh seniors retire

actually Anthropic is working on replacing staff engineers at this point, they just assume that clause is already better than a senior engineer!

what c levels are not realizing is that for "replacing" engineers with AI you need senior engineers amounts of money 💰💰💰🤑 😂
