“A day too early is better than a day too late” is something I live by personally when it comes to stuff like this..

These are my pups. Left to right. Scrapper. Rio. Salem and Ellie. Last Friday my MIL was watching them while on vacation and she woke up and found Ellie paralyzed with her back legs. Its been a week now and not a lot of progress so not sure she is gonna recover. I just hope enough that we can do like a wheelchair for her and she can be comfortable and have some freedom back. But this whole things been hard.

The “becoming better” stage is part of dying of old age/illness in old age it happens to people too (they often gain a lot of clarity)

As many people said “a day early is better than a day too late”, I had anticipated grieve as my 12y Yorkie was having severe health issues but acted fine and i couldn’t let him go, I couldn’t ask for euthanasia.. he was then k* by a reckless driver (suffered 15 seizures before pronounced diseased in the emergency vet).. looking back I wish I was strong enough to get him euthanized and not suffer especially on a good day rather than on a rainy scary day

For me, Friday was the day. I gave him a fresh-cooked meal. We went for a walk as far as his tired legs would carry him. I drove him home, gave him a Smashburger, and he fell asleep peacefully in my arms.

Would you recommend allowing them to live out that good day (like a actual amazing one with no sign of pain) if possible to get a appointment the next day early. I have a senior cat and I know eventually I may have to start thinking about this (rn his vets say he’s comfortable with his kidney failure)

I have a 18 year old dachshund and he still eats and drinks. But he has bad days when he gets stuck in a corner. Will he tell me when he’s ready

it was so hard, my baby finally ran for the first time in the past few months on a walk, he wanted to stick his head out the window and was so full of energy i hadnt seen from him in so long. I wanted to turn around and take him home but i knew it was better to be on a good day than a bad one that would oeave me with no choice. i miss him dearly :(

My dog, Kia was having such a good final day. She was able to go on a walk for the first time in months, because her arthritis wasn’t giving her issues. She was so happy and playful. Though I’m thankful that her last day was full of joy, and it was definitely the right time. 🙁

People have “rallies” at the end of life but it’s not long lasting. It is a part of the process. Dogs can rally too.

a lot of the time also sudden increase in health like this is followed by SEVERE decline, as it's an indicator of their body giving up on fighting what's killing them. A lot of sick people feel suddenly better right before they crash because their body has stopped fighting
