I am a nurse working in mental health and I currently work with therapist. LPCC, LMFT, LCSW and PsyD. You absolutely can not practice independently without a lic. The only providers that practice without a lic are post doctoral, and working hours toward licensure and all their notes are co-signed BY someone with a lic. And there is a limited time they can work unlicensed

That’s like me calling myself a child & family social worker when I’m just a social services case manager…. Under the same umbrella but I’m not able to work in social worker positions because I don’t have a license to do so

Amen to this! The APA’s ethical principles and code of conduct clearly outlines the expectations for those in field as well. Section 5 is quite apropos in this discourse. Anyone who has studied the field of Psychology, within an accredited program, are trained on these principles. So, it’s been perplexing to watch this situation unfold. Thanks for speaking truth!

Wait so when I looked it up, she says she dropped her license. Whether she just dropped it or never had one, your point still stands. But having it and dropping it is a call in for ethics. If your license isn’t active, practicing is not ok. And intentionally dropping to avoid the ethics board is even more egregious. I just want to make sure I have the right info is all.
