@jessjessjessu: i realised i can’t love animals and eat meat at the same time when i was 8 and ive been vegetarian ever since, if you guys have any other comments or questions let me know i am interested 💗🫶🏻#grwm #grwmmakeup #vegan #vegetarian #fyp
As a less fortunate person, my family heavily relies on eating meat because we can get it in bulk for really cheap and it gives you lots of nutrients. It’s very hard to find plant based food in bulk because it goes bad really fast

tofu is 95p from Aldi, vegan sausage rolls are 99p, and even things like lentils and chickpeas are extremely cheap idk where the notion that veganism is expensive came from tbh

It’s lowkey the opposite the vegan diet is expensive asf liek you look at foods that are made for vegans and they’re always just super expensive compared to the amount of servings/portions it provides

America is a huge country with many underdeveloped areas where people don’t have access to vegan protein alternatives. Some people only have access to cheap processed meats. Just because vegan alternative are cheaper in your area it is not true for everyone.

Ugh I disagree so heavy with this. Iit is simply true that meat options are cheaper for many people in many places. Also I would be careful to say “eating meat is a privilege” when actual poor people are saying the opposite. What is cheaper in YOUR area might not be representative of all areas. Also I don’t think we’re talking about high quality meat here. Of COURSE a good thick steak is expensive, but a McDonald’s burger is MUCH cheaper than many other options as well as being nutritious enough.

"had a look in Sainsbury's" - if that doesn't say privilege, I don't know what does. I'd love to have the money to shop at Sainsbury's.

Never understood this take. It’s also not an issue that’s as black and white as you and Billie are making it. There are so many variables and factors such as prices, allergies, accessibility. Sometimes vegan substitutes are more expensive, sometimes they’re not! Tofu, lentils, beans are cheaper than beef for me, but also any plant-based milk is more expensive. It’s rude and yes, privileged, to just say that if you eat meat you don’t care about animals. There are an incredible amount of exceptions and situations where that’s simply not true.

The ability to cook is a privilege having your own money to buy things is a privilege being able to choose what you buy is a privilege being close enough to a store to by your cheapest vegan groceries is a privilege having the time to cook is a privilege knowing how to cook is a privilege having access to the things you meet to be able to cook is a privilege being able to choose what you eat is a privilege ……babe I could go on I have been hungry enough to just eat whatever it is that’s put in front of me 😌

Vegan meat substitutes are ultra-processed food. You need to minimise your consumption of ultra-processed foods. They are really bad for you.

A 2026 global review titled Cost and affordability of plant-based diets: global evidence from 2000 to 2025 analysed 25 years of data across multiple countries, combining randomised trials, population studies, and real-world supermarket pricing. It reflects evidence from tens of thousands of people and national food cost datasets, and the conclusion is consistent: whole-food plant-based diets are typically equal or cheaper than diets containing meat and dairy, because animal products are the most expensive foods. The only time vegan diets become expensive is when people rely on processed substitutes, not basic foods like beans, rice, and vegetables. So in developed countries, cost isn’t a valid excuse the cheapest diets on the planet are built from plants.

I went Vegan for a couple of months and I really enjoyed it but it was so expensive and it was hard to buy for just myself when I also have to buy food for my family who aren’t vegan. So I’d be buying double groceries when I can barely afford a single grocery haul. I do alternatives here and there but having a purely vegetarian or vegan diet in this economy can be really hard for a working class person. I do think it’s a privilege to sustain yourself on purely Whole Foods and alternative foods currently. I still love animals. 😭💕

i fully agree with you 💚 I wasn't born a vegan and it took me almost 10 years to wake up!🙋🏻♀️for me cooking and not buying "fast food" is way cheaper because of all the endless combinations and many portions you can achieve. it's much better than eating out.
