When the UK state pension rises to the same as other European countries we can have a conversation about the triple lock but not before

Have to consider liquidity not just net worth. Means testing sounds rational, but I suspect working out who gets what would be practically tricky & have unfairness baked in if payments were flexible. How do you adjust payments if life changes, living costs change, health events or high care costs are needed. You can’t be simplistic about this.

First video I disagree with. you can't justify taking money from pensioners (no matter how rich) when giving money to other countries with Space programs.
my biggest problem is yes if you have 2m you don't need £200. but we all know that will be reversed down each year.

Hi love your videos - except this one. I’m not a boomer but am heading towards my pension. Can you explain to me why it’s an option to go for pensioners, when billionaires and people who work in the UK but don’t pay tax here are not taxed properly ? I genuinely don’t understand why it’s even being discussed before the other options are not dealt with. Thanks

Another issue is public sector pension. It's fixed salary based on avg career income. Taxpayers pay more into it than the employees. Last year I think there was a shortfall of £5b which taxpayers had to cover. It gets more expensive as the population lives longer as its guaranteed for life and then you get state pension on top when you get to that age.

Despite the triple lock operating for several years, the UK pension is still one of the lowest in Europe. How can other countries pay higher pensions than the UK?

Please stop using the term 'paying in'. It makes certain pensioners believe that their NI payments were a form of savings, instead of what they actually were, current account taxes that have been spent.

Totally agree, we have enough saved to retire in our 50s so well prepared for retirement, I’d be happy to be means tested!

Means test yes, but everything means tested we’ve had in the past has always hurt the middle class. So it’s at what level do we means test and how is it graduated.

what needs to happen is the pension to pay the living wage and it to be means tested ,

The UK state pension is one of the worst in the world combined with one of the highest retirement ages in the world.

Have you read / watched Lord Willetts “The Pinch”? There’s a great Royal Society video about it on YT.

I will be absolutely furious if I spend my working life paying into a private pension and they take my state pension off me

They’ll just keep raising the pension age. Politically much easier.

I think you’d be a perfect candidate for Restore Britain. I suggest reaching out to Rupert Lowe. You could make positive changes that would help all the people living in Britain financially.

I think scrap the triple lock but don't means test. once you means test then it becomes easier to 'other' the people that claim it and they will be looked down on and discriminated against much easier

Fully agree with this, start it slowly by removing the state pension from anyone paying the higher rate of tax.
