All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and his companions. To proceed: Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen mentioned in his commentary on this surah that it is called Surah Al-Ikhlas (The Sincerity) because it embodies sincerity to Allah, the Exalted, and whoever believes in it is sincere. Thus, it means that it is sincere to its reader, meaning that if a person reads it believing in it, then he has been sincere to Allah, the Exalted. Or, it is because it is pure (with a fatha on the lam), since Allah, the Exalted, has purified it for Himself, so He did not mention in it any rulings or any information about others, but rather it contains only specific information. Both interpretations are correct, and there is no contradiction between them. Fakhr al-Razi said in his Tafsir al-Kabir (The Great Commentary), after mentioning that one of the names of this surah is Surah Al-Ikhlas (The Sincerity), he said: Because whoever believes in it is sincere in the religion of Allah, and because whoever dies upon it will be saved from Hellfire. And Allah knows best.
