@doctora_edith: I understand the instinct to question everything when it comes to your newborn. You want to protect them. And yet this is one of those decisions where the science is incredibly clear. Babies are born with very low vitamin K levels. It’s not because of anything we did as moms, it’s just how human biology works. And vitamin K is essential for blood clotting. Without it, newborns are at risk for something called Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeding (VKDB), a rare but devastating condition that can cause internal bleeding, including bleeding in the brain. Here’s the part that’s hard to ignore: • Vitamin K deficiency bleeding can happen suddenly • It often happens in babies who looked completely healthy • And when it involves the brain, it can lead to permanent disability or death The vitamin K shot: • Has been used safely for decades • Is a one-time dose given at birth • Reduces the risk of severe bleeding by more than 80x Oral vitamin K is not as reliable, and trying to give it to your newborn through your breastmilk won’t be enough either. As a pediatrician and a mom, this is not a gray area for me. This is one of the simplest, most effective ways to protect your baby in their most vulnerable first weeks of life. #pregnancy #motherhood #vitaminK #newborn #newmom

Mom to mom, you do know death is listed as a side effect and it has a black box warning right?

Babies are meant to have low vitamin k at birth so that the blood that goes back in through their system from the placenta can travel efficiently, which is why delayed cord clamping is important, it is full of stem cells and is more than enough for their little baby bodies. Colostrum (the thick yellow milk before breast milk comes in) has plenty of vitamin k. Doctors in hospital settings usually clamp the cord WAY too soon and then tell you that your baby needs the vitamin k shot. Highly unnecessary but makes them lots of money.

So all of you saying they didn’t get it, it’s been standard of care in developing countries since the early 60’s. It will also never be on a vaccine record because it’s not a vaccine…
