@jamegmungen: In reef ecosystems, parrotfish play a crucial role in sand production. These fish graze on algae growing on coral, ingesting bits of the coral skeleton in the process. Inside their digestive system, the organic material is absorbed, while the remaining calcium carbonate is excreted as fine sand. A single parrotfish can produce up to around 1,000 pounds of sand per year, contributing significantly to majority of the sand found in tropical parts of the world🐟🏝️#ocean #wildlife #fish #AnimalFacts
