Omg I got my 11yr old a phone so he has it for middle school, and I realized he has no idea how to hold a conversation over the phone 😂😭 His Grandma called and said she was traveling & was currently at the Grand Canyon, and he said "cool". I was like BRO ask her questions!! Ask her favorite place so far, ask for photos, where's she going next, does she plan to travel all year, literally sooo many questions lol.

I am am an oversharing shy person who does not want to talk to people AT ALL. I told my son that I have to make him talk to people because I don’t want him to miss out on opportunities like I did because I can’t speak up.

I used to tutor a group of upper elementary/lower middle kids. We’d toss a beach ball I called the conversation ball and the whole point was for the catcher to not drop the conversation (ball) by coming up with a follow-up to whatever the tosser said. Were some of the conversations awkward? Sure. But it taught them to at least try to keep a conversation going.
