So banh mi is served many ways throughout Vietnam. It translates to wheat bread. Bread that can be served as a sandwich or on the side of a dish. Some parts of Vietnam, you’ll get a baguette with your bowl of pho. Some parts you’ll get something very similar to what you are eating as a staple breakfast dish. What you are eating is not really deconstructed. It’s actually pretty close to its authentic form. It’s a variety of meats, egg cooked in a sizzling pot and served with a side of bread. Vietnamese is a very interesting language because we have one word that can describe a variety of different things.
