apparently you never worked with raw aluminum. it not only absorbs water, it will get a white rust. 13 years in steel. 7 of those on an aluminum plate saw. it's been painted.

Aluminum is a good conductor and becomes brittle in weather. What is it coated with, and how long is that coating rated for? I think it would turn your whole roof into a lightening rod, though.
