horsepower is the amount of work the motor does in a second. horsepower matters for both acceleration and top speed. high peak horsepower requires high rpm peak torque. Massive low end torque is only good for hauling cargo. torque is a twisting force, 1 revolution is the work of that torque. revolutions per second is the power that is produced by the torque. more revs, more power, more acceleration. as you increase torque, revs increase, the rate at which those revs increase depends on the resistance that this torque has to overcome. you can't separate torque from horsepower.
