what about roth 401k that is what I give to knowing I am paying the taxes today and can afford to. the company match is pretty tax but my roth 401k is tax free and growth as well and it loops me out of.traditional roth where I am Capped at income level and 7k a year a roth 401k I can give what you can in a regular 401k so wouldn't that put you in better standing?

Comparing yourself to avg or median makes no sense. It's all about your salary and spending

Are you really living on 20% less if you are no longer contributing to retirement at that point?

Damon Murphy Ed.D. :
Why don’t any of these experts talk about monthly spend in retirement. All they talk about is savings. We need much more talk on what monthly spend is at each income level in retirement. Like - if I live a middle American retirement life, how much cash do I need each month? $5,000? 7,000? $8,000? $10,000? “Nobody really mentions” this.

Considering that I will be retiring at 65 in 8 months and only have $300 K in total retirement funds, I guess I’m fucked.

The thing about basing it on salary is, I’m 36 and my salary has exploded the last 4-5 years. So I was saving a good percentage the whole time, but since my salary is much higher now it looks like I’m way behind. I have increased my savings a ton in the meantime but it will take many years to catch up to my current income level
