@meghannmcuniff: Royce Clayton testified for about three hours on Friday in the trial over the Iskanders’ wrongful death lawsuit against Rebecca Grossman, Peter Grossman and Scott Erickson. The Iskanders’ lawyer Brian Panish asked him what Erickson told him happened when Grossman struck Mark and Jacob Iskander, and Clayton broke down crying so much that Judge Huey Cotton recessed court briefly so he could regain his composure. The questioning occurred about an hour into Clayton’s direct-exam as Panish asked about his conversations with Erickson, including a phone call 10 minutes after the crash as Erickson, a retired professional baseball pitcher, hid in the bushes and a four-hour call later. Clayton, a retired pro baseball shortstop, earlier in the exam detailed his decision to tell police that he knew the second driver they were trying to identify was Erickson, and he told Panish his contact with Erickson were him telling Erickson to take accountability. “Tell us what Mr. Erickson told you when he was at the scene talking to you on the phone about what transpired,” Panish said. “He said that they were coming from Julio’s [restaurant]. Rebecca and Mr. Erickson, driving from Julio's. You can say racing … He just explained to me — I don't know if you use the word ‘racing’ — but they're traveling a high rate of speed,” Clayton testified. “She was directly behind him, and he said as he came up to this crosswalk, he saw the children,” Clayton began to cry and could not continue. After a brief recess, Panish questioned Clayton about his conversation with Erickson regarding attorney James Silverstein and prominent sports agent and attorney Jeff Borris. "Did you have any discussions that night from the scene where you told Mr. Erickson that he should contact a representative?" Panish asked. "Yes," Clayton answered. "And you felt that Mr. Erickson should contact the lawyer, and you told him that, right?" Panish asked. "Yes," Clayton answered. "And you actually texted him the contact information of Mr. James Silverstein, a local lawyer that you knew?" Panish asked. "He was recommended to me. I didn't know Mr. Silverstein until a friend recommended him," Clayton answered. Panish confirmed Clayton got Silverstein's name and contact info that night and texted it to Erickson.
