The only time I will ever sell a problem animal is if the problem doesn’t effect their quality of life and won’t be a problem for the buyer. I had a Guernsey milk cow that became cystic and could not maintain a pregnancy and therefore could no longer function as a milk cow. But she was a fantastic animal and otherwise healthy with a long life ahead of her. She’s now a companion cow for weaning calves at a nearby farm. She’s not producing milk and never will again, but she gets to mother all the weaned calves every year then gets to go back in with the pregnant moms when the weaning period is over. I still would have never sent her to a sanctuary, they’re almost all scams.

IMHO any shelter/rescue/etc for any type of animals (pet or livestock) that doesn't cull/euth animals that don't have good QoL or aren't adoptable are highly unethical and just support animal overpopulation and neglect as a whole. Farmers and ethical breeders are like the best people just by the way their care about animals they produce❤️

Animal stewardship seems to be a hard concept this day in age we get in our feels and project it on to animals. We as stewards to our animals make a commitment to be responsible, compassionate care and ethical decision making in the best interest of our animals. Sometimes this means end of life decisions. It's better to let them go on a good day than to wait until multiple bad days. That is what is ethical, not letting them live in pain or constantly sick because "we" think they should live.
