Ceramic teacher here!! When hand building with clay if you wrap them in plastic after you’re done making whatever you want it will dry more even and won’t crack! <— This is a very good tip once you switch to regular clay!! If you have any questions just message me!

Before you start sculpting. Try kneading the clay and making sure all the air pockets are out, should help!

In my opinion Polymer clay is the way to go when it comes to clay! You bake it and it comes colored! So many cool ideas to make !

You can take the clay and mix it with some water making a “slip” gently smudge/smear it into the cracks on both sides and smooth it out. Once it dries it shouldn’t be noticeable. Then you can paint it

With plates you have to let it dry out slowly! Or it creates a crack because it dries too fast!

i dont know air dried clay but with regular clay if it dries fo fast it will crack. we always put them in a plastic bad with a tamp paper towel or just in the bag closed so they dry slower.
