Yeah, this is bizarre. It’s double spaced. In what world are you always writing in single space? If you turned in a single spaced paper when I said double spaced, I would take 30% off before reading a word.

My school said 20 pages and meant 20 pages. If you went over you had points taken off for an "inability to understand the material in a concise manner" and it was almost worse than not writing enough to them.

you know you can click select all and then doubble space. what is the benefit if writing it in single spaced when the directions say differently.

it is so easy to go to the ribbon, click double space, and look at the bottom right hand corner to see how many pages you have. in addition, you should have known that single spaced you were at almost 20 pages already. i am sorry you did all that work, but we all reach a time when we realize we need to pay more attention to details. this is your call to notice details.

In real life, spacing and page number requirements matter. If you ever have to file something in court you MUST comply with court requirements re spacing and pages or your filing could be rejected. Paying attention to detail and complying with rules actually matters!

I was an English major and one of my professors said that to write something good you should plan on deleting about half of your first draft, so it sounds like you’re right one track for that😅😅😅

As a professor, I’ve seen worse. I had a student turn in 35 thousand words for a paper that was minimum 7 thousand words. It was the spring of 2020 and grading was pass fail.
