@kadenwatson11: Alien uses its setting and its creature to discuss several underlying fears about predatory behaviors. Let’s chat about it! #alien #whattowatch #movies #filmtok #kadensmovieclub
There's a shot in this movie, the first time you see the alien in its adult form, you think you're looking at chains and machinery in the ship, and the alien is right there, hiding in the shadows. It takes you a few seconds to see it, but once you see it, you can't escape it

Going back to the first one after rewatching the entire series a while back, I was reminded how Weyland Yutani is not explicitly said by name. It’s always just “The Company”. One of my favorite aspects of the first one is how anti-capitalist it is, fighting over unequal shares and only being used to increase the company value

I think picking up on the idea of the crew in Alien being “space truckers” really drives home the concept that corporations (in real life) often treat blue collar workers’ health and safety as expendable. It’s interesting to see how different film makers use aliens to talk about big subjects. Can’t wait to see more of the movies this month. Great breakdown!!

The thought of capitalism in space (Weyland Yutani) is severely depressing

Alien will always be my favorite example of delayed horror. the movie feels so comfortable for so long until the facehugger, then again until the chestburster. what an incredible pivot 😱

always loved that wide shot of everyone chatting and eating next to Cain after he woke up meanwhile Ash is as far as he possibly can be from him since he kinda knows what's coming

how relevant is: corporations using technology (synthetics) for financial gains at the expenses of humans. the monster was never the alien. the issue was the synth letting it on board

I watched this movie for the first time recently. I felt like I must know all the plot points because of cultural osmosis but the Android reveal was actually shocking

It’s so awesome to see Alien’s impact on pop culture and multimedia. From Fallout 4, Blade Runner, Spaceballs and the obvious like AvP, etc. Ridley Scott created an absolute monolith with this franchise

I really enjoy that they not only are truckers but feel like truck drivers without much mysticism or “wonder” that most science fiction stories about the future would feel like

I grew up believing humanity would evolve into Star Trek, and instead we are clearly getting the Alien universe in this timeline... a film that has only gotten more and more relevant, sadly. Would love to see you cover the recent films too. We love us some David 😳

Minor point: they don't actually take a shuttle to the surface. They take the whole ship to the surface. The Nostromo just separated from the tanker/refinery portion of the ship. Love your videos!

I always read lots of criticism of Prometheus, but after watching it, I rank it right next to Alien (1979) and Romulus

I love the way the movie starts off delivering what appears to be a high concept space opera style with the hypersleep and vastness of space and future technology etc, to really ramp up the audience's sense of curiosity and wonder, then suddenly takes a hard turn into horror as the whole situation rapidly spirals out of control
