I used to just up and leave home as a kid and just roam the streets. As I got older, I started walking out of school a lot and just roamed around before going home. I dropped out of school twice and went back before dropping out a 3rd time for good. I've walked home in blizzards in the dark or just walked home from party's at 2 or 3 in the morning (which took hours because this is out in the sticks and party's were in other towns) just bc I just suddenly didn't want to be in these places. I've walked out of 2 jobs and I've worked on making sure I don't do it again lol but even now at 36, I still get STRONG urges to up and leave places. I've been navigating active burnout over the last few years which has made it harder to mask, so I've been "rerouting" my energy and conserving it to mask when it's most important and learn to be comfortable unmasking in safe environments bc things like elopement are harder to fight off when your burnt out 🥴

I feel the need to just run away, but I’m chronically ill and for a while in my adulthood I didn’t have a car for like 10 years so I’ve had to learn how to swallow that. It is miserable and uncomfortable 0 out of 10.

I did have moments like that shopping with parents but I would also remember moments where say you're having a family gathering at your house and everybody's there the kids are there and everybody's either outside or downstairs and you go up and run in your room and it just feels so soothing I don't know what to call that

I appreciate your videos so much! Really helps me recognize a lot of things and how they evolve. I frequently “ran away”/eloped as a kid, either relating to visiting my narcissistic mother or just general overwhelm. My brothers gf at the time lived sorta close and she’d always let me in. As an adult I have days when I have an incessant need to leave wherever I’m

I also went into the clothing racks as a toddler 😹 my mom’s strategy was to buy me a helium balloon and tie it to my wrist every time we went to the mall. She always knew where I was 🎈

My elopement looks like hiding somewhere within my understanding of where I am supposed to be, but out of sight. “Backyard” was around the corner out of sight. Or on the floor parallel to the bed when I was “in the room”

At the beginning of this video I immediately thought of the time I stepped out of a moving vehicle on a pretty busy road to get away from my then-boyfriend berating me about something. Was very gratified to hear you have a similar story, since I don't think anyone I've mentioned it to has ever quite understood it

Babe same. My mom lost me ALL the time. As an adult I moved all the time. Just abandoned life and started over again.

How do you deal with meltdowns as an adult? I’m trying to teach my child calming techniques but he is unresponsive in those moments.
