Permission Based Training is when you ask your bird if it wants to interact in the way you'd like it to, and then WAIT for the bird's response and respond accordingly. An example of permission based training vs force is asking your bird "do you want to step up?" not only with your words, but with your intention and body language, too. Our birds are constantly reading our body language and catching onto subtle cues we give. If you can ask your bird from far enough away if it wants to step up and then read whether or not they're inviting you in further, you can respond appropriately in a way that builds trust and a strong foundation with your bird. Force is when your bird is not receptive to what you want (like stepping up) and maybe hesitates, moves away or just refuses to lift a foot and you push your hand into its chest to cause it to be off balance and HAVE to step up, or you peel its feet off the perch. Forcing your bird into interactions does not strengthen your relationship long term and even while forceful tactics seem effective in the immediate timeframe, they cause harm and mistrust overall making every interaction harder. Learn more about permission based training via our YouTube channel, having a consultation with us, attending one of our parrot lectures, workshops or masterclasses or by downloading our digital courses at our website BirdTricks.com. Our training methods work on all types of parrots at any stage they're at. #training #bird #pet
