BALIKATAN exercise ginagawa nila. yearly na yan, and matagal nang joint military drill between the philippines and US. this year kasama rin canada and australia. it focuses on defense preparedness, military modernization, interoperability, and disaster response training. hindi naman bago yung exercises na may missile systems or live-fire components kasi part talaga yan ng military training. totoo namang dependent pa tayo to some extent on foreign military support because realistically, hindi pa sapat yung sariling capabilities and equipment natin to fully defend the country alone in case of external threats. pero hindi rin automatic na dahil may exercises sa leyte, magiging war zone agad ang pilipinas. leyte has historical and strategic value kaya ginagamit din siyang training area. gets ko yung concern about being caught between superpowers, especially given our history during world war ii, pero yearly na ginagawa yung balikatan and its main purpose is preparedness and coordination between allied forces, not declaring war or preparing to attack another country.
