A photographer spent six years trying to capture one incredibly rare alignment of the Moon, a mountain and a basilica. Italian photographer Valerio Minato first began planning the shot in 2017. His goal was to photograph the Basilica of Superga near Turin, with the peak of Monviso lined up behind it and the Moon rising in exactly the right position. It sounds simple, but the three subjects are separated by huge distances, meaning the photo could only work from a very precise location and at a very specific moment. For years, Minato kept trying. Sometimes the weather ruined the shot. Other times the Moon, mountain and basilica simply did not line up perfectly. Then, in December 2023, everything finally came together. For a few brief moments, the crescent Moon appeared behind Monviso while the Basilica of Superga sat perfectly aligned in the foreground. After six years of failed attempts, he finally got the photograph he had imagined. The image was so remarkable that NASA later selected it as an Astronomy Picture of the Day. One photo. Six years of patience. And only a few seconds to capture it. #fyp #crazinews #nasa #viral #photography
