Wait so did I miss why you turn off the pump? Doesn’t it stay on year around? Might be a dumb question. 😅 I’m in Texas so we keep ours going year around but also we don’t get all 4 seasons really haha

The filter head should be left on the “winter” setting and if there is no winter setting leave it between 2 of the slots so it is wedged up. Leaving it in any of those slots over winter means the gasket inside is being fully compressed all winter and can easily destroy it

you turn the pump off. then fill it with water. then put the lid back on. then turn it on. if it doesn't prime. restart from the beginning running it with the lid off is not right

You shouldn’t leave the pump lid off while priming open all of your valves and use a bucket or a hose to prime it. Then shut them except for a skimmer and start from one suction line. It is a safety issue to leave the pump lid off. Doing it this way decrease the amount of air in your system. Better for your pump and less pressurized air.
