i saw on idea here on tiktok last week was instead of asking & bringing gifts to a birthday party, give a card with cash or venmo the parents whatever age the child is turning. so say you’re going to a 5 year olds birthday party, you would give her $5 instead of a gift. it makes it so the other kids parents aren’t having to run to the store last min to try & find/bring a gift, & as the birthday childs parents you aren’t bombarded with a ton of gifts that you know your child isn’t going to play with, the money can go towards 1 or 2 gifts that you can take your baby to pick out that they’ll actually want!

We do a $5 note . They can save it and spend it on whatever they want.

My baby has a bank account so instead of toys for his first birthday, we are going to ask our friends and family for money to go towards that account - I do feel a bit funny asking but in my head I would rather see the money being saved while he doesn’t understand what a birthday is and can’t ask for specific things - what are your thoughts on this because I’ve been getting mixed feelings towards the idea

I always ask parents what they need instead of what toys they want. If they don’t tell me what they need, I buy things like the next size up pajamas or socks, things they will actually use.

honestly I always buy off the list! I don't have 1 mom friend that doesn't make a registry/list for birthdays and it's so helpful. and it's not always items too! for instance, we contributed to my son's cousins soccer lesson fund for Christmas

Love this! Babes and toddler get so much STUFF especially for first birthdays, I always opt to get Mum something special to celebrate the day she gave birth, a voucher for a spa treatment or something

Thank you 🙏 so refreshing. I had my kids young and I struggle how different parties are these days it’s all aesthetic and curated I’m like what’s happening , and the pressure young kiddies have to compete with their friends on birthday parties. They don’t need the stress 😭

my daughter turns one in two weeks I'm literally taking her to play group and the library for her birthday and then she's getting closed nappies and wipes and the Teddy

I would rather the gift just have actual thought behind it which is what this is! It doesn’t matter how much something cost it’s about knowing the person well enough to know they will love it regardless

Right now, my favourite gift is homemade Play-Doh and printing the child’s face and putting it on the container 🤍 It works from 3 all the way to 7 years, and I just do it on repeat 🤍

We are just doing a $10 wishing well instead of a bunch of prezzies she doesn’t need. Then we can put it towards a bit present for her!
