Sometimes I find popping the cake into the fridge, after I’ve made my first dam and filling layer, to firm up the buttercream before the next cake layer helps massively!

my mom (baker) she always told me cakes absorb ones humor and energy, that must be true cuz she is a pro and yet for my 13 birthday she had to redo my cake 3 times, she was so stress out that the mdf cake was cracking and breaking and took all day to do, at the third try she just give up and made another one from scratch and it came out amazing!

Freeze the cake layers if you haven’t!! Its such a help to keep the cake from falling apart. Ever since i started wrapping my cake in clear-film and freezing it until i liked the firmness my cakes have been behaving so well!
