Most of us in the US would appreciate being able to walk or bike places but places are simply too far away from one another for that to be realistic. Also a lot of cities are not very pedestrian friendly so walk/biking anyways could be more dangerous.

The United States is proportionally much larger than France. As Americans we wish we could get the locality of our food as most French have. Yes we have some close farms but not in comparison to them.

The US is 18 times bigger than France. Many people commute to work and our infrastructure wasn’t built around bikes or even public transport. Many of us prefer to live in houses with large yards instead of an apartment in the city.
